60 seconds with Monte Sparkman

There are great strength and conditioning coaches working with athletes of all levels. Coaches working with youth and high school athletes are often overlooked.

It takes tremendous skill to teach in-experienced athletes how to train, lift weights, and spring the proper way.  Monte Sparkman is one of those coaches. Monte is the Director of Athletic Performance - Richland High School and the National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA)- Texas State Director. Liberty is pleased to have Monte as a guest on our blog.

Nick Cipkus: Why do you like training high school athletes?

Monte Sparkman: I enjoy training high school athletes because I have the ability to positively impact the lives of young people.

Nick Cipkus: What are some of the most common deficiencies you see in your athletes?

Monte Sparkman: Some of the most common issues I see in the athletes I train are the lack of  general physical preparation (GPP) and general strength.

Nick Cipkus: Do you set goals with your athletes? If yes, how?

Monte Sparkman: I am in constant communication with our athletes regarding expectations and goals moving forward. Record boards are great reminders of progress

Nick Cipkus: What is your favorite quote?

Monte Sparkman:  "It’s easier to build strong children, than to repair broken men. Fredrick Douglas"

Monte is a great follow on Twitter and Instagram, regularly showing videos and images of him and his athletes training.  You can follow him here @MonteSparkman
